I have worked for 27 years as a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. My varied nursing career has spanned from the University of Washington Hospital's NICU, to Seattle King County Public Health Department as a Public Health Nurse, to Overlake Hospital as an outpatient Lactation Nurse, and most recently to the Renton School District as a School Nurse . Although I enjoyed and learned from all of my nursing jobs, I began to realize that the traditional nursing role was creating an imbalance in my energetic body and taking a toll on my health. I became extremely fatigued and developed chronic severe low back pain. My “free-time” became my health-care-appointment-time. Over a 6-8 year period I visited numerous doctors, naturopaths, massage therapists, physical therapists, acupuncturists and many other specialized health care providers. I spent thousands of dollars on treatments and supplements each year, with little relief.
After being introduced to energy healing in the form of QiGong, I began to see some hope of regaining my life back. I began to slow down and listen to my body. I learned to “welcome my symptoms” as a window into my healing journey. I logged at least 60 hours of QiGong class time that first year as well as weekly yoga classes. I became a Reiki practitioner and offered Reiki treatments to friends and family as well as treating myself.
A few months later, I heard about BodyTalk through a good friend. I was curious and skeptical. At my first session I was amazed at the depth and scope of the practice. I became hooked! Within a year I fulfilled all my training (80+ hours) and 50 practice sessions and became a Certified BodyTalk Practitioner.
My background as a Registered Nurse is a perfect foundation for this energy work. The beauty and power in BodyTalk is that we are the gatekeepers of our own health. We just need to relearn how to listen to what our body is really telling us.
This past summer my teenage boys planned the Third Annual Ross Lake Kayak Trip with our family and friends. Just two years ago I cried with disappointment, as the boys and my husband left on the inaugural trip, not able to attend it myself due to my severe back pain. Determined not to miss another family adventure, I tentatively signed on to kayak and hike 2012's trip and survived amazingly well, minus the excessive mosquito bites. By 2013, I surprised myself and my family with my paddling prowess--we paddled 11 miles the first day (the last few miles into a brewing thunderstorm!). It was exciting and exhilarating! BodyTalk gave me back my power with my health and my life. I am grateful for this beautiful and brilliant practice. I can’t think of a better gift to share with others.
