My Wish Lantern on my birthday! I've always enjoyed birthdays--usually others birthdays more than my own. When my children were young, my husband and I would help them plan out the birthday of their dreams--within a reasonable budget, of course. We had pirate themes and knights, space travel and car races. It was so much fun their friends would ask if they could have their party at our house too.
My birthdays were a different story. We often traveled or had a quiet dinner at home. These past few years my husband traveled frequently for work and was often out of town over my big day so, it would go by unnoticed and unplanned. Maybe it was an act of denial on my part--not recognizing the years passing, not focusing on the "number". 50 changed that for me.
This year I decided my birthday was going to be celebrated my way! I planned a Paint Nite get together on my big day and my friends stepped up to the challenge! My sister and niece surprised me with a weekend get away to the coast and my husband and boys bought me flowers, books and sentimental cards with handwritten warm wishes. We wrote our wishes on our Wish Lanterns and bravely sent them skyward. Fifty is fabulous!
I have been reading the book The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer, digesting it slowly over the last few months and enjoying the truths is was revealing in me immensely. Then nearing my birthday, I finally came to the last chapter "The Loving Eyes of God". Singer talks about how we each have deep within us a direct connection with the divine. That we have the ability to grow past the anger, resentment and tension of our physical body and move towards lightness and love. "You used to walk around feeling anxiety and tension; now you walk around feeling love…Your backdrop is openness, beauty, and appreciation." It sounds trite writing it here right now on this blog but, I know now that this is the road on am on for 50 and beyond. The feeling of being open and light is exactly how I feel when I am practicing my energy work on others, myself and my family. How fitting that I sent up a Wish Lantern for my birthday--full of light, openness and beauty. 50 is a good time to begin.
